What Is The Best Diesel Fuel Additive For Cummins?

Cummins Inc. has chosen to formally approve and suggest two Power Service Products diesel fuel additives – Diesel Kleen +Cetane Boost and Diesel Fuel Supplement +Cetane Boost – after internal studies revealed that both help boost engine performance.

“As engines evolve and diesel fuel manufacturing processes change, diesel fuel quality has become increasingly critical,” said Roger England, director of technical quality and materials engineering at Cummins, in a statement.

He went on to say that the Diesel Kleen and Diesel Fuel Supplement additives aid with difficulties such as poor fuel lubricity, low cetane numbers, low temperature operability issues, injector deposits, and so on.

England also mentioned that using Kleen +Cetane Boost all year helped clean filthy injectors, reduce injector sticking, smooth rough-running engines, and improve fuel economy.

According to Ed Kramer, president of Power Service Products, his company’s Diesel Fuel Supplement +Cetane Boost is a winterizing/anti-gel used to prevent diesel fuel gelling and to keep fuel-filters from plugging with ice and wax during the winter months when temperatures drop below 30 degrees Fahrenheit.

“Paraffin (wax) in ultra-low-sulfur diesel fuel (ULSD) will gel as temperatures drop, preventing fuel from flowing through the engine, and water in the fuel will freeze on the facings of fuel-filters, preventing fuel flow,” he stated. “This mix ensures trouble-free diesel fuel operation in the winter.”

Does the 6.7 Cummins need fuel additive?

For the first time, Cummins is recommending fuel additives for its diesel engines. Diesel Kleen + Cetane Boost, on the left, is suitable for all seasons. When the temperature drops below 30 degrees F, add Diesel Fuel Supplement + Cetane Boost.

How often should I use diesel Kleen?

  • For best performance, add Diesel Kleen +Cetane Boost (silver bottle) if the temperature is above 30°F. To ensure peak diesel performance, this Max HP Formula is infused with cetane, detergent, and lubricity improver.
  • Add Diesel Fuel Supplement +Cetane Boost (white bottle) for winter operability if temperatures are below 30°F. This Arctic Formula will keep your fuel from gelling and your fuel filter from icing.
  • If your vehicle won’t start or get power in the cold, call Diesel 911 to reliquefy gelled fuel and de-ice frozen fuel filters.
  • To remove water, scatter impurities, and stabilize fuel for long-term storage, use Clear-Diesel Fuel & Tank Cleaner.
  • To destroy bacteria and remove remaining water and pollutants, use Bio Kleen Diesel Fuel Biocide and Clear-Diesel Fuel & Tank Cleaner.

Does Cummins endorse diesel Kleen?

Cummins Inc. (NYSE:CMI), the world’s biggest manufacturer of diesel engines, has announced that two Power Service products – Diesel Kleen +Cetane Boost and Diesel Fuel Supplement +Cetane Boost – are now officially endorsed and recommended for use in diesel engines.

Can you use too much Howes diesel treatment?

Yes! In fact, using a diesel fuel additive to increase the life of your diesel engine is highly advised. Whether you drive a huge vehicle, work on a construction site with an excavator, or travel across the nation in an RV on vacation days, you can benefit from using an additive all year. Premature wear of your injectors, pumps, and upper cylinders can be avoided with fuel additives that clean and lubricate diesel fuel. An anti-gel ingredient, such as Diesel Treat, is essential in colder climates or scenarios where you may move from warm weather to cooler ones. A system that does not use high-quality additives may suffer with time, lasting far less than an engine that has been properly maintained. In the winter, not utilizing an anti-gel could result in significant downtime and cost you money. It is possible to use multiple products at the same time, and overtreatment is not dangerous. Even if you’re using an injector cleaner like Howes Diesel Defender, you can add Diesel Treat immediately soon if the weather starts to turn cold.

Which Howes additive should I use in the winter?+

How Does Diesel Work? It’s an anti-gel diesel conditioner with a cold flow improver to prevent gelling throughout the winter.

What’s the difference between Meaner Power Kleaner and Diesel Treat?+

Diesel Treat has a cold flow improver in it to keep it from gelling in the cold. Meaner Power Kleaner is a powerful injector cleaning and lubricant for use in hotter climates.

Do Howes additives void engine manufacturer’s warranties?+

Howes products are safe to use in any diesel engine because they contain no alcohol or toxic solvents, are particle filter friendly, and do not void the warranty of any engine manufacturer.

Are Howes additives safe to use in gasoline engines?+

Diesel Treat, Diesel Defender, and Meaner Power Kleaner are all diesel-specific products. They are not suitable for use in gasoline engines. Howes Fuel Enhancer is a multi-purpose, preventative maintenance product that is safe and effective in all diesel and gas engines. In 2017, the Gas Conditioner was no longer available.

How do Howes products handle water?+

The additives used by Howes are petroleum-based. Rather than absorbing or emulsifying water, they displace or demulsify it. This is the way that engine manufacturers prefer.

Are Howes products compatible with other diesel additives?+

All diesel additives are compatible with Howes diesel products. However, some additives, unlike Howes products, contain abrasive alcohol or toxic solvents that suck water into the gasoline and through the fuel system, creating possible damage. All Howes products are alcohol-free and push water out of the fuel, allowing the water separator to properly remove it. As a result, combining Howes products with alcohol-based products may negate some of the advantages of using Howes alone. Howes products can be mixed to augment or enhance their advantages because they are all petroleum-based and contain no alcohol or hazardous solvents. Follow the treatment ratios on the Howes bottle for the best results, and only use Howes products in your engine.

Does Diesel Kleen prevent gelling?

DO NOT ADD TO THE FLUID TANK FOR DIESEL EXHAUST. Antigel protection is not provided by Diesel Kleen +Cetane Boost; in cold temperatures, use Power Service Diesel Fuel Supplement +Cetane Boost (in the white container) to prevent fuel gelling. Fill 40 liters of diesel fuel with the total contents (16 ounces).

Can you put too much Diesel Kleen in?

It’s possible to have too much of a good thing. It’s easy to overdo it with a high-quality diesel fuel additive. Too much lubricity improver might react with other pollutants in your gasoline, resulting in blocked filters, which is a different fuel problem.
