Honda Cars India sold 54,427 cars in 2011-12, down 8.47 percent from the previous year’s 59,463 units.

Ito stated that the company’s two-wheeler business will be strengthened by the introduction of more items in the volume-driven 100 cc sector.

“Honda will seek to build its motorcycle business in India by introducing highly competitive models in the 100 cc segment, which is the largest sector in the Indian motorcycle market,” he said.

In the first half of 2013, the company would begin manufacturing at its third two-wheeler plant in India, he added.

“Honda will continue to be proactive in evolving its motorcycle business by using further growth in emerging economies, where continuing increase is envisaged,” Ito said.

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India’s total sales in the two-wheeler segment climbed by 27.19 percent to 21,07,228 units in the 2011-12 fiscal, up from 16,56,727 units the previous year.
