The diesel engine makes greater torque available at low speeds than any gasoline-powered F-150. However, it appears that this distinction isn’t enough to deter many purchasers opting for the green pump.
Ram, Chevy Not Likely to Follow Suit
If you must have an oil burner, the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado with a 3.0-liter 6-cylinder turbodiesel producing 460 lb-ft of torque is still available. Because there isn’t a Silverado with greater torque than that, the Chevy diesel may be spared for the time being.
Ram will also sell you a 2021 Ram 1500 with a 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 that produces 480 lb-ft of torque. Unless you count the 650 lb-ft of the performance-oriented Ram TRX, that’s the most torqued Ram. The TRX, on the other hand, is designed for speed rather than stump-pulling, and its maximum towing capacity of 8,100 pounds places it towards the bottom of the Ram 1500 towing chart.
