You’re just plain reckless if you do. To protect my safety and to cause the least amount of disruption to others, I prepared to lose electricity, and I even planned where and when it would happen. This was not a fluke.

Which explains why, with only 2% of battery capacity displayed on the Nissan’s dashboard, I’m tearing up and down a remote but wide and straight road near my house. I declined and continued on my way.
As we approached 1% battery, the alerts continued. The available range shifted from a few miles to the dreaded ‘-‘. The screen displayed 0% after a few moments, and the automobile continued on its way.
It went on for another seven miles, constantly warning me of impending and inevitable catastrophe. It was almost as if it was enraged that I had defied its severe warnings and continued on. Regardless, there was no reduction in power. The climate control was still operating happily, and the performance was still brisk.
I’m sure ten miles or more would have been doable if I’d been driving a little more carefully before the automobile gave me notice that it was all going to end. The Leaf triggered Turtle Power with a powerful jolt. This reduces the amount of power accessible to the very minimum, allowing you to travel quickly from a potentially deadly situation to a safer one. It also illuminates a turtle on the dashboard, which is a great touch.
At this point, slamming the throttle all the way down to the floor won’t help much. The automobile crawls along, gradually increasing its speed to around 20 mph. It’s not much, but it could be enough to get you out of trouble.
The car continued in this manner for another three quarters of a mile before succumbing to the inevitable. The Leaf perished suddenly and unexpectedly harshly. The motor thudded as the power went out, and it rotated a few times more as momentum kept the car moving for a few meters, but that was it. The Leaf had vanished.
However, there is still a standard car battery on board, which provides enough power to turn on the danger warning lights (and even the radio if you’re not taking this seriously) and keep you safe and visible on the side of the road. There is no power steering, though, if you need to push the car to safety. Fortunately, the Leaf freewheels admirably, only becoming difficult to push when the front wheels are twisted.
