Major ISPs like Comcast and Time Warner Cable have asked the FCC to oppose proposals that would allow Chattanooga’s public broadband networks to expand, citing the fact that every home and company in the city currently has gigabit connections. Following its failure, Comcast launched its own 2Gbps service in the city. The gap between smaller ISPs and large enterprises such as Comcast is widening by the day. Comcast has been testing a 300GB internet cap nearly two hours away in Knoxville, Tennessee, while EPB Fiber Optics is expanding speeds and reducing rates.
