Why did I receive a text from my own phone number?
The new rash of same-number spam texts comes amid a recent increase in the overall volume of spam texts received by U.S. cellphone users.

Spam texts are also known as SMS phishing or “smishing” attacks, in which criminals try to deceive wireless users into providing personal information or clicking on malware-infected URLs. Spammers can fool your phone’s Caller ID into thinking a text or call is coming from a local or government-related number, a tactic known as “spoofing.”
In the case of spam texts with the same number, it appears that “bad actors” can even spoof receivers’ own phone numbers, adding another layer to the process.
Why did I receive a text message from myself stating that my bill had been paid?
Customers of Verizon, including me, have been receiving a new type of spam text message in which it appears that you are the spammer. This message comes from your own phone number and informs you that your monthly bill has been paid.
Is it possible to see a texting app on your phone bill?
